Project: Prudential Building, Downtown Boston
Challenge: Providing Cooling, Humidity Control—And Silence
The Prudential Building in Boston is surrounded by upscale apartments and condominiums in an exclusive, fast-growing neighborhood. When a supermarket in the new Prudential Building was being planned, humidity and temperature control were critical to help the store maintain profitability in a high-cost real estate area. Also of paramount importance was quiet equipment operation on the roof.
A 100-ton Seasons•4 system was selected because it provided optimum humidity and temperature control, and because it offered exceptional noise protection. Several noise baffling and absorption systems were engineered into the custom unit, which was installed on the roof of the building.
The result? One of the technicians doing the installation didn’t believe the system was actually working because it was so quiet. There is so little noise coming from the system, in fact, that it’s possible to stand beside the unit and still hear the foot traffic on the street four floors below.
